The Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male, was an unethical natural history study that spanned 40 years conducted by the United States Public Health Service and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on 400 black sharecroppers in Macon County, Alabama. The study blatantly lied to its participants about receiving treatment for syphilis.
